Uses of Pressure, Milliamp and RTD Calibrators by Oliver Cook
Instrument calibration is a necessary and important part of any instrument system. The accuracy of the information produced by any instrument is dependent on it.
Pressure, temperature, current, voltage, density, etc. are some of the most widely measured variables. Pressure sets critical conditions for boiling, chemical reactions, distillation, extrusion, vacuuming, and conditioning of air. Any mistake in measurement of pressure can create major safety, quality, and productivity problems. Low pressure can create productivity issues, and very high pressure inside a sealed environ can cause an explosion. Hence, precise and regular pressure calibration in transmitters, switches, etc. is necessary. Pressure gauges, pressure sensors, pneumatic hand pumps, etc. are used for pressure calibration. Pressure calibration is done accurately by using internal sensors or external pressure modules. A pressure source may be provided by a self-contained internal pressure pump, or an external source such as an accessory pump or a pressure bottle or regulator.
RTD Calibrator is a handheld tool for calibrating RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector) transmitters, including most pulsed transmitters. A large number of RTDs can be simulated or measured, in units of °C or °F. An RTD Calibrator also simulates and measures resistance in units of ohms. It does not source and measure simultaneously. RTD calibrators are widely used for calibration of thermocouples because the resistance that an electrical conductor (e.g. the Platinum element) exhibits to the flow of an electric current is related to its temperature.
A milliamp calibrator or mA calibrator sources and measures the loop DC current. In its source mode, it feeds known mA signal to the input of any instrument. The current that the milliamp calibrator feeds the mA (0-20 mA) is continuously variable. In its measure mode, it measures external milliamps. The milliamp calibrator can be used to calibrate recorders, digital indicators, stroke valves or any other instruments that get their input from a 4 to 20 mA loop. It combines 0 to 24 mA Source, mA Meter, two-wire Transmitter Simulator and DC Volt Meter in a single compact unit.
Some of the major industries where calibrators are used are aerospace for calibration in civil aviation and military aircraft; oil and gas, wind and nuclear power in power stations and high-voltage distribution grids; automotive and transport; electronic spare parts; telecom for fiber networks; and medical for calibration of equipment used in diagnosis.

27 January 2012 - British technology start-up, Power Ethernet, has launched the 'PE Socket', the first product to integrate Powerline networking technology directly into an electrical socket. The PE Socket provides a simple and professional way of specifying high-speed data network connectivity throughout a building by using electrical cabling. The 'PE Socket' is available from leading electrical resellers including CPC and Rapid Electronics.
Based on the HomePlug AV standard for Powerline networking, Power Ethernet's all-in-one PE Socket combines four Ethernet network ports, a fully-managed network switch and filtered power socket into a single device. It fits a UK Standard 35mm double gang metal back box and uses a building's electrical wiring to create a high-speed and secure data network for connecting computers, Voice over IP phones, Internet-connected TVs and digital signage, home automation and entertainment systems, building management systems, CCTV cameras and other Ethernet connected-devices.
Power Ethernet's PE Socket is unique in integrating Powerline into the electrical fabric of a building and its sockets. It's a professionally engineered, reliable Powerline solution which has been aesthetically designed to ensure that the sockets can be installed in the most prominent of positions. This enables the creation of a high speed network without the need and the disruption of running specialised cabling.
In Greenfield sites, the Power Ethernet system removes the cost of specifying and installing additional cabling to provide network connectivity. In Brownfield sites, it also removes the costs of making good the installation of additional data cabling and reduces disruption by using existing electrical cabling. It can be used as a complete, backbone network for residential buildings, providing Internet and data connectivity for devices and home automation systems. In commercial buildings it can be used as a simple way of extending existing networks to accommodate demand for new device connections or creating sub-networks to support deployments of IP-based phones, CCTV cameras, building management systems or digital signage.

The Power Ethernet socket supports speeds of up to 200Mbps across mains cabling and distances of up to 300 metres between sockets. The filtered power socket is designed to reduce the effect of electrically noisy devices that may be plugged into it in order to provide the highest network rates across the Powerline network.
Installing two or more PE Sockets instantly creates a high speed, secure Ethernet network running across the existing electrical mains cabling. More devices and additional rooms can be easily added to the network simply by installing additional PE Sockets so creating a truly flexible, affordable networking solution.
A Power Ethernet network includes the advanced networking features needed for commercial deployments, such as support for voice and video over IP, security (128 bit AES), device prioritisation (Quality of Service) and network segmentation (virtual LANs). With a fully-managed network switch on each socket, the Power Ethernet system integrates easily with existing enterprise networks.

Neodymium magnets are a relatively new scientific break through having only been developed in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Their tremendous pulling power easily out-performs the field produced by ferrite or alnico magnets, which were considered the standard prior to the discovery of rare earth.
Today, these powerful magnets are used in numerous applications. They are perfect for many industrial uses such as in permanent motors and cordless drills and other tools. The MOSFET circuitry includes only low-pass filtering which means that frequencies above a certain cutoff point are tuned out, while low frequency response is enhanced. This allows the MOSFET microcircuitry to pump out a lot of bass signal.
The KDC24U comes complete with an infrared remote control - an unusually high-end feature in a the reasonably priced arena - that allows you complete control over the radio, CD and iPod/iPhone. With it, one can search, review play lists, although the blue display is only 11 characters wide, and scroll back and forth on the iPod. In other words, you don't get as much "rated" power in a tube amp, but, because of the output transformer, you get all the power you paid for delivered to your speakers; which are an important component of home theater systems, just make sure to use the right connection.
The impedance of your speaker should be printed on a label next to the connection terminal. It will say 2, 4, 8, or 16-Ohms.
The output transformer, rare in transistorized amps, is the "secret weapon" of the tube amplifier designer.
It allows for great creativity of design, and with that, a more colorful sonic signature.
Typically not as powerful as their transistorized counterparts, and requiring a little more TLC (tubes wear out), tube amplifiers offer an "ease" of sound and "rounder" sound that is hard to duplicate with more modern designs.
For those desiring the sonic signature of tube amplification, but who want to replicate live-sound volume, more powerful tube amplifiers have recently been introduced. For the well-healed music lover, they provide the best of both worlds.
If you crave the warm sound of tubes, but you either don't have the deep pockets it takes for a high power tube amp, or you want a "set it and forget it" maintenance-free system, a tube preamp (often referred to as a control center) may be the answer.
Passing your music through a tube preamplifier on it way to a transistorized amplifier often imparts just enough of that special sonic signature, while providing sufficient power for even the most power-hungry speakers.
